prefer（重要词组）

prefer vt. 更喜欢。常用结构有：

1. prefer (doing) sth./sb. to (doing) sth./sb.（这个结构可以简化记忆为prefer A to B），表示“宁愿……而不愿……；与……相比更喜欢(A和B通常为名词、代词、动名词)”。例如：

Micheal is a child that prefers his imaginary world to reality.Micheal是个喜欢自己的幻想世界甚于现实世界的孩子。

I prefer watching football games to playing football.与踢足球相比我更喜欢看足球比赛。

注意：

“prefer A to B”可以与“like A better than B”互换使用。例如：

I prefer football to tennis.=I like football better than tennis.与足球相比我更喜欢网球。

2. prefer to do sth.，表示“更喜欢做某事；宁可做某事”。例如：

She likes Spain, but personally I'd prefer to go to France.她喜欢西班牙，而我个人更愿意去法国。

3. prefer sb. to do sth.，表示“希望/愿意某人（能够）做某事”。例如：

I prefer him to be with us next season.我希望他下个赛季和我们在一起。

注意：

以上两个结构的否定结构分别为：“prefer not to do sth.（不喜欢、不想做某事）”和“prefer sb. not to do sth.（不希望、不愿某人做某事）”。例如：

I prefer not to walk for so long.我不喜欢这么长时间步行。

His mum preferred him not to travel by plane.他的母亲不希望他乘飞机旅行。

4.“prefer to do sth. ... rather than do sth.”，表示“宁愿……而不愿……”。例如：

I prefer to stay at home rather than go out.我宁愿待在家里而不愿出去。

注意：

“prefer to do sth. ... rather than do sth.”通常可与“prefer doing sth. to doing sth.”互换使用，例如：

I prefer to play basketball rather than go fishing.=I prefer playing basketball to going fishing.我宁愿打篮球也不愿去钓鱼。
